Terrazzo

Made from a mineral base combined with carefully selected stone and decorative aggregates, SERA Terrazzo brings together material depth, colour and architectural character. Each surface reveals its composition through variations in fragment size, tone and distribution, giving every design its own visual rhythm.

From refined graniglia and crystalline compositions to bold Palladiana fragments and graphic inlays, the collection moves between subtle texture and expressive pattern. Designed for floors, walls, kitchens, bathrooms and commercial interiors, terrazzo creates surfaces that feel substantial, contemporary and enduring.

A material shaped by composition, made to become part of the architecture.

Terrazzo FAQs

What is Terrazzo and how is it made?

Terrazzo is a mineral-based composite material in which carefully selected natural-stone aggregates are set within a cementitious matrix. After curing, the surface is finished to reveal the stone and create the characteristic depth, movement and visual texture of terrazzo.

SERA Terrazzo includes designs ranging from fine, evenly distributed aggregate to larger natural-stone fragments and graphic compositions. The scale, colour and distribution of the aggregate vary by collection and are an integral part of each design.

The result is a durable architectural surface in which the mineral base and natural stone work together rather than forming a perfectly uniform printed pattern.

What variation should I expect?

Natural variation is an inherent characteristic of Terrazzo. Individual tiles may show differences in background tone, aggregate colour, fragment size, stone distribution and the position of individual chips or inlays.

Minor pores, pinholes, small surface markings and subtle differences in finish may also occur as part of the mineral production process. Natural-stone fragments can themselves vary in colour and veining.

Samples and website images provide a general indication of the design but cannot reproduce the exact distribution of stone in every tile. We recommend ordering the full quantity required for a project at the same time and blending tiles from different boxes before installation.

Where can SERA Terrazzo be used?

Depending on the specific design, finish, substrate and installation system, SERA Terrazzo may be suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, residential floors and walls, commercial spaces and selected outdoor applications.

Wet areas and exterior installations require appropriate waterproofing, drainage, adhesives, grout and sealing systems. For floors, the installer should also assess slip resistance, expected traffic and the suitability of the selected finish for the intended use.

Always check the applications shown on the individual product page and have demanding installations assessed by an experienced professional before ordering.

Does Terrazzo need sealing, and how should it be cleaned?

Terrazzo is a mineral material and may absorb moisture and staining substances. A suitable penetrating sealer is therefore generally recommended, particularly for floors, kitchens, bathrooms, wet areas and other stain-prone applications. The sealing system and timing should be selected according to the specific product and installation conditions.

Sealants, grout and other treatments should always be tested on a spare tile or small sample area before general application. Acid-sensitive natural-stone components can be damaged by unsuitable products.

For regular cleaning, use warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for terrazzo or natural stone. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, bleach, abrasive powders, metal brushes and aggressive chemicals. Clean spills promptly and reseal the surface when required by the chosen sealer and level of use.

What should I know before ordering and installation?

Order sufficient additional material for cutting, layout selection, installation breakage and future repairs. The appropriate allowance depends on the room geometry, tile size and complexity of the layout, so it should be confirmed with the installer before ordering.

Before installation, open all boxes, inspect the tiles and complete a dry layout. Mix material from different boxes to distribute natural variation evenly and confirm the orientation of patterned or directional designs before fixing begins.

The substrate must be stable, level, clean and suitable for the intended application. Wet areas require a professionally installed waterproofing system. SERA Terrazzo should be installed by a qualified professional experienced with terrazzo, cement-based or natural-stone tile.
