HANDCRAFTED MOROCCAN BEJMAT

Zellige tradition in an elongated form

Handcrafted in Morocco from natural clay, SERA Bejmat follows the same artisanal tradition as Zellige in a distinctive elongated format.

Each tile is individually formed, cut and glazed by hand. Differences in tone, surface, dimensions, edges and sheen are therefore an inherent part of the material rather than imperfections to be removed.

Its greater thickness and elongated proportion give Bejmat a more substantial character while introducing a strong directional rhythm.

Chalk White reveals a distinctive range of soft mineral whites, shifting between a powdery chalk white and a warmer limestone undertone depending on the light and surrounding materials.

Running bond, stacked, vertical and herringbone arrangements can transform the same tile into very different architectural compositions.

Handcrafted Bejmat 14×4.5 cm tiles used as flooring in a contemporary apartment kitchen, featuring natural texture and subtle colour variations.

RHYTM IN EVERY LINE

A form made for pattern

Bejmat combines the irregular surface and reflected light of handmade Zellige with the order created by an elongated format.

Small variations between individual pieces soften the geometry of the installation. Lines remain clearly defined, yet the finished surface never feels mechanically precise.

Edges may be slightly irregular, dimensions may vary and glaze can move differently across each tile. Subtle colour variation, small pits and marks from the handmade process are characteristic of authentic Bejmat.

The result is a surface that changes with the direction of the layout, the surrounding materials and the movement of light throughout the day.

Before You Order

Bejmat is handmade and deliberately irregular.

Expect variation in colour, dimensions, glaze, edges and surface texture. These differences become part of the finished composition.

We recommend mixing tiles from different boxes before and during installation.

Always order sufficient material for cuts, selection and future replacement. Because production batches can vary, additional material ordered later may not be an exact match.

Installation Guide

Installation by a professional familiar with handmade Moroccan tile is recommended.

The installer should establish the layout before fixing the tiles and work with the natural dimensional variation rather than attempting to force mechanically uniform joints.

Tiles should be mixed across boxes to distribute colour variation.

Grout colour and joint width significantly influence the final appearance of Bejmat and should be selected as part of the overall design.

Follow the current SERA installation and care recommendations for wet areas, sealing requirements and cleaning.
