HANDCRAFTED MOROCCAN TERRACOTTA

Natural clay, left unglazed

SERA Terracotta is handcrafted in Morocco from natural clay using the same artisanal foundation as our Zellige, but left unglazed to reveal the material in its most elemental form.

Each piece is individually shaped and fired, allowing the natural colour and texture of the clay to remain visible. Subtle variations in tone, dimensions, edges and surface are inherent to the process.

Without a glaze covering the surface, the character comes directly from the clay itself.

Natural Sand reveals a distinctive range of warm sandy neutrals, shifting between a sun-bleached beige and a soft golden sand depending on the light and surrounding materials.

The result is warm, tactile and quietly irregular — a material that feels closely connected to the earth from which it is made.

CLAY, FIRE AND TIME

A surface that grows richer with use

Terracotta is a porous, unglazed natural material. Variation in tone, texture, dimensions and edges is characteristic of authentic handmade production.

Individual pieces may contain small marks, pores, surface irregularities and tonal movement created during forming and firing. These features should not be considered defects.

Once installed and correctly treated, terracotta begins to evolve with its surroundings. Its colour can deepen, its surface can soften and a natural patina may gradually develop.

Rather than remaining visually unchanged, the material records light, use and time, becoming increasingly individual as part of the space.

Where to Use

Terracotta brings warmth and natural texture to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Depending on format and installation, typical applications include:

  • Interior floors
  • Interior walls
  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Feature walls
  • Residential spaces
  • Selected commercial interiors
  • Outdoor Living where technically suitable for the local climate and installation

Suitability for wet areas, exterior use and specific floor conditions should always be confirmed before installation.

Before You Order

Terracotta is a naturally variable material.

Colour can range noticeably between individual pieces, and differences in surface, dimensions and edges are expected.

Always inspect and mix tiles from multiple boxes before installation to distribute tonal variation naturally across the surface.

We recommend ordering sufficient additional material for cutting, selection and future repairs.

Because handmade production and firing naturally create batch variation, later orders may not exactly match the original material.

Installation Guide

Professional installation by someone experienced with natural terracotta is strongly recommended.

Terracotta is porous and requires appropriate sealing as part of the installation process.

Tiles must be kept clean and protected during installation. Grout, adhesives and other construction materials should not be allowed to stain the untreated surface.

Use products specifically suitable for natural terracotta.

After installation, maintain the surface with gentle, pH-neutral cleaning products. Avoid aggressive acids and harsh chemicals.

With appropriate care, the surface will gradually develop a natural patina rather than remaining completely unchanged.
